The 2012 Acaibo is a very special wine to us as it represents the first vintage of our new endeavor here in California. Coming on the heels of two rather tough years, this vintage proved to be spectacular. The grapes on our estate enjoyed a long hang time with warm days and cool nights that led to a mid October pick. Through a series of tasting sessions and after much contemplation, we arrived at a final blend of 53 percent Merlot, 46 percent Cabernet Sauvignon and a sprinkling of 1 percent of Cabernet Franc to add complexity and create balance. This first edition of Acaibo was aged for a little more then on year in French Oak barrels, around 75 percent of which was new. With a blend of 3 different barrel coopers and a variety of different toasts, our goal was to create a wine with well integrated wood and purity of fruit.
